• Thanks go out to all the volunteers and homeowners who made the Benton House Home Tour a rousing success. A lot of time, thought, and scheduling goes on behind the scenes, and the folks behind the scenes make it all happen!
• The Lawrence Fire Department, in partnership with Koorsen Fire Protection, is offering FREE smoke detectors to households that don’t currently have one in Lawrence. If you need a smoke detector, sign up while supplies last. Once your request is received, the LFD Fire Marshal’s office will get in touch to arrange a convenient delivery time. Visit www.cityoflawrence.org/smoke-detector-request and ask for one.
• Red Alert! Artists and kids of all ages can register for the 2024 Window Painting spots in Irvington for the Halloween Festival on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 23-24 from 5-7 p.m. at the Irvington Library, 5625 E. Washington St. The window spots go fast, so be prepared to stand in line for your kids or grandkids.
• Hee Haw for Paws is a comedy show to raise support for the Therapy Dogs for Greenfield Central High School programs. The dogs are in training at this time, and there will be a final certification soon. The show will be held Sunday, Sept. 29 at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door. The show features students from the G-C Comedy Sportz League at the Greenfield Central High School, 810 N. Broadway in Greenfield.
• Big shout out to the volunteers who did a great job on East 16th St. in front of Anna Brochhausen School 88 over the weekend. The traffic-calming street mural looks great. Hopefully it will slow down some knuckleheads along the stretch between Ritter and Arlington.
• There will be a Fall Makers Market at the Benton House, 312 S. Downey, on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be more than 25 vendors selling jewelry, artwork, antiques, crafts, curio art, and much more. While there, check out the lovely gardens and grounds.
• Ellenberger Park invites everyone out for the Second Annual 80’s Skate Night at the rink, 5301 E. St. Clair. Dress up like it’s still the 80s, and skate to 80s music. You can win a free pool pass for being best dressed. Admission is only $5. Bring your own skates (roller).
• The Marion County Health Department will begin sending out Community Health Assessments to select residents in the county to help them help the community. An invitation will be mailed by the end of September to approximately 22,500 residents from different areas of the county. Those invited can take the survey online, by phone, or by mail.
• Stomping Ground, located at 1625 Nowland Ave. on the east side, will be having a native plant sale on Sunday, Sept. 22 from noon-4 p.m. They will have several varieties of native shrubs, trees, and plants for your garden, including many varieties that attract beneficial insects and butterflies.
