• Marion County residents are invited to participate in a free legal clinic on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Central Library to have crimes expunged and evictions sealed. • Sunday, Aug. 4 is the final day for Indy Parks outdoor pools. Splash Pads remain open until Labor Day.
• The City of Indianapolis and Indy Parks have teamed up to offer 18-week park-based training opportunity for Indy youth, ages 18-24 who are looking for a career path in public service, and park conservation. The Junior Park Ranger Training Program will help close workforce gaps will providing a chance at a good career. Participants will have the opportunity to earn money, participate in hands-on work experience, and work toward credentials. Visit yesindy317.org for more information. • Sunday, Aug. 3 is Ice Cream Social Day at the Bona Thompson, 5350 University Ave. in Irvington. The day starts at noon, and there will be great ice cream, music, and the museum will be open for people to see the new exhibits. Come on down with friends and family and spend the afternoon. Downey will be closed 2 blocks from University, so you can park in the big parking lot next to the Bona. Bus Stop Bistro will also be on hand with savory goodies. Ice cream scoops are $4 and will have several flavors to choose from, thanks to Sundae Ice Cream.
• National Night Out will be on Tuesday, Aug. 6th. Your neighborhood may have a gathering, cookout, etc. that night, but even if they don’t, you can show your support for safer neighborhoods by keeping your porch light on. If you live in Otterbein (Emerson to Sherman east/west, 16th to 23rd north/south), swing by Living Word Church, 4934 E. 21st St. from 7-11 p.m. for free food, games, music, a movie, and more. Bring your lawn chair and hang out!
• The West Perry library branch recently won the prestigious IIDA 2024 Library Interior Design Award in the public libraries under 30,000 sq. ft. The library is located at 6650 S. Harding St. and opened in 2021.
• Tickets are available for Heels & Healing, a benefit drag show for Irvington Counseling Collective. The show will be on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. at Downtown Olly’s Backyard, 822 N. Illinois. Presale tickets are $20 and available online at irvingtoncounseling.org/shop/tickets or at the door for $25. Irvington Counseling Collective is a nonprofit that provides mental health counseling on a sliding scale for the LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities and is located at the old depot building in Irvington.There will also be a silent auction.
