• Ron Gee, a community leader and organizer of Cease Fire Indy, was killed on Thursday, July 18 at a gas station on the east side. Our hearts go out to his family and we know that many will pick up the baton and carry forward with his anti-violence mission.
• Andre Carson’s annual Job & Resource Fair will be held at the Ivy Tech Culinary and Conference Center, 2820 N. Meridian St.,  on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. There will also be free community resources like resume help, expungement information, and more.  No pre-registration is required.
• A big thank you goes out to all the volunteers at the annual Benton House Book Sale that was held July 19-21. Organizers said it was a record-breaking year for the sale, with a huge amount of books, and a huge amount of shoppers! All proceeds go to help maintain the historic Benton House.
• IMPD East District will hold a Coffee with a Cop session on Tuesday, July 30 from 2-3 p.m. at the Starbucks at 5702 E. Washington St. Everyone is encouraged to go chat with officers about concerns and questions.
• If you or a loved one need food, there will be a free food drive on Saturday, July 2 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Shepherd’s Harvest, Good Shepherd Methodist Church, 2015 S. Arlington Ave. Anyone experiencing food insecurity is welcome. You will be asked to fill out a brief form at the door.
• Post and Raymond streets are the next intersection that will be converted to a roundabout, according to the Dept. of Public Works. Expect restrictions and detours, and construction is expected to begin in early August. It will take about 60 days to complete the project.
• On Saturday, Aug. 3 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., the Emerson Heights neighbors are a having a day celebrating the great things in their neighborhood with activities, food, a DJ, fire trucks, activities for the kids, and much more. The event will be held at the Living Faith Church, 4802 E. Michigan.
• Did you know that Indy Parks community pools are open on Thursdays from 4-6 for free community swim hours? Ellenberger, Brookside, Broad Ripple, and Douglass are just a few of the community pools in our area. Visit parks/indy.gov/poolsandsplashpads for locations.
• The Big Ten Conference recently announced that Indianapolis will continue to host the Big Ten Football Championship Game through 2028.
• Gen Con Indy 2024 runs Aug. 1-4 at the Indiana Convention Center. One of the largest Gen Con’s in the country, last-minute registrations are available for gamers and those who love cosplay. There are no registrations at the door. Visit gencon.com/indy as soon as possible to register for this year’s event.
