INDIANAPOLIS — The Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre will host the return of White City Murder, and original musical murder comedy by Ben Asaykwee, from July 19-Aug. 4.
White City Murder is a clever two-person musical exploring the life of H.H. Holmes through the eyes of the Columbian Exposition of 1893, otherwise known as the Chicago World’s Fair. In two acts, the play involves over 30 characters, all played by Asaykwee and Claire Wilcher.
Holmes is one of the first documented serial killers in the U.S., and was a bigamist and con artist who was responsible for the deaths of over 27 people in his “murder castle” hotel in Chicago, mainly young women. He fled Chicago and ended up in Irvington, where he killed his last victim, Howard Pitezel, and stuffed his remains in the chimney of his rental home. He was arrested and executed in May 1896.
White City Murder chronicles the life of Holmes with drama and music by Asaykwee.
Performances are July 19-Aug. 4 at the Phoenix, 705 N. Illinois on Thursdays-Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sunays at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online at phoenixtheatre.org or by calling the box office at 317-635-PLAY.
