Annual Book Sale Helps Support Benton House

IRVINGTON — Community members have been very generous in their donations this year and the volunteers and staff at the Benton House have a record number of books to go into the Annual Benton House Book Sale. The sale begins Friday, July 19 from 5-8 p.m., and continues on Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and ends on Sunday, July 21 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.  The sale features every genre that is fit to print, plus DVDs and some vinyl records. This year, there will be a section for New Releases (published in 2022 or later) and Special (old, unusual) books. The Benton House is located at 312 South Downey St, in Historic Irvington.
Pricing is $1 for paperbacks and children’s; $2 for hardbacks; $3 for new releases; classic and special are individually priced. Sunday is bag day — fill a typical plastic grocery bag for $5. Furnish your own larger bag and it will be appropriately priced. Cards are the preferred method of payment but cash is accepted.
In order to make the sale happen, there are open slots for setup and teardown as well as during the sale itself. Sign up here rb.gy/lpco29. Volunteers get a free bag of books!
If you have a Little Library, register it with the Benton House on Facebook or e-mail their book sale account (booksale@thebentonhouse.org) by sending a picture and the location; then come and get a free bag of books during the sale.
Also during the sale, on Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., there will be a Makers Market at the Benton House, with many vendors selling art, books, jewelry, crystals and more.
A special thanks to all the companies and people who make the sale possible! Montgomery Tent & Awning provides the large tent to shelter all the books, volunteers and shoppers; Pete Apostolou from Lincoln Square generously donates the meal to feed the book brigade volunteers for the last several years. Many volunteers have worked throughout the year sorting books and preparing for the sale.
The Benton House is listed as an Indiana Museum and is on the National Register of Historic Places. All proceeds from the book sale go toward maintenance of the 150-year-old home. The Benton House is available for rental for small weddings, rehearsal dinners, receptions and other gatherings. See thebentonhouse.org/rentals/ for more information.
