INDIANAPOLIS — Citizens Energy recently announced street closures around Ellenberger Park that will run at the same time as the ongoing work on the southeast corner of the park with the DigIndy Project. The project is part of a tunnel system designed to reduced combined sewer overflows into area waterways. The overall project at Ellenberger Park is expected to wrap up by December 2025.
Crews have started work in the construction zones adjacent to the park. This work will run concurrent with the existing work in the park. Traffic flow will likely be impacted in certain areas.
Portions of roadway on the southern border of the park, including E. Pleasant Run Pkwy N. Dr. (from N. Whittier Pl. to N. Ritter Ave.) and a portion of E. Pleasant Run Pkwy. N. Dr. at its intersection with E. Michigan St. will close.
The areas will be accessible to local traffic, especially the residents who live on these streets and need access to their homes. Through traffic will be limited due to the construction activities.
These street closures to last approximately eight months. As construction progresses, the goal will be to re-open the completed portions of our work areas.
To detour around the construction, signage will be in place to direct traffic to 10th St. via Emerson Ave. and Ritter Ave. Traffic officers will be stationed at Lowell Ave. and St. Clair St. for at least the first few weeks to help calm traffic and prevent speeding through the residential areas close by.
