• Indy Pride Festival will be held on Saturday, June 8 from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Kicking off at 10 a.m. with the fabulous parade at 748 Mass Ave., the festival itself will be held at Military Park on W. New York. There will be lots of activities, vendors, and a celebration of all things LGBTQ+ Pride. General admission tickets are $10 in advance at indypride.org.
• The Irvington Farmers Market will be held on Sunday, June 9 from noon-3 p.m. at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair. The once-a-month market features fresh produce, prepared food, arts & crafts by local artisans, music, and a great chance to meet your neighbors. The award-winning farmers market is held the second Sunday of the month June-October. Swing by and see what all the fun is about!
• Cumberland residents are invited to come meet new friends in a safe space every third Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at Lions Park, 301 N. Buck Creek Rd. There will be activities including outdoor adventures along the Cumberland Trails, talk, book club, and more. Meet at the covered shelter near the parking lot on June 18, July 16, Aug. 20 or Sept. 17.
• IMPD is hosting its Third Annual Teen Academy June 17-21 for teens ages 12-14. Classes will be held at Creston Middle School, 10925 E. Prospect from 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Mon.-Thurs. and noon-6 p.m. on Fri. for graduation. Sessions include CSI/Crime Lab investigations, conflict resolution, law & your community, and physical training. • The First Friday arts events throughout the city, including Fountain Square, Harrison Center downtown, Circle City Industrial Complex on the near eastside, and Irvington businesses, are this week from 6-9 or 5-10 (Irvington). In addition, Indiana Landmarks, 1201 Central Ave., will be open for First Friday with a special exhibition of Harry Davis’s work.
• The Eiteljorg Museum’s 9th Annual Juneteenth and Jazz Celebration will be held Saturday, June 15, and includes jazz performances by the Rob Dixon Quartet, Cassius Goens Quartet, along with poetry readings, storytelling, and lots of activities for the whole family. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and admission is free all day. They will have a Juneteenth Art Gallery inside. The museum is located at 500 West Washington St.
• You can learn Fire Safety with Kasey the Fire Dog at the Spades Park Branch library on Saturday, June 15 from 2-3 p.m. As part of the Summer Reading Program about pets, come out to meet Kasey the Fire Dog, a black lab who teaches kids life and fire safety skills. You must register for the class online at indypl.org — seating is limited for the program.
• Tech Alumni Day is this Saturday, June 8th on campus at 1500 E. Michigan (open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.). Registration starts at 8 a.m. in the cafeteria. Veterans Memorial Ceremony is at 9:30 in front of the Arsenal. Alumni Association Annual Meeting/Awards Program is at 10 a.m. in the auditorium. This is a family event including bounce house and face painting for the kids, live music by Helpling Band at 11:30 a.m. in the cafeteria, guided campus tours from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., all class line dancing at 1 p.m., alumni cheerleaders Cheer Off, dunk contest and basketball game in the west gym from 2-4 p.m. Be sure to check out the Tech Alumni Museum in the Media Center. Please bring canned food items to support food pantry for current ATHS students.
• The gardens out there are looking great! Thank you to all the hard working volunteers who have been keeping our public spaces looking bright and beautiful on the east side despite all the rain!
