• Congratulations to the last 8th grade class to graduate from George Julian School 57. Beginning with the 2024-25 school year, School 57 will be K-5, and Howe will be the middle school. School 57 has seen a significant turnaround in the past several years, thanks to a supportive staff, engaged parents, and dynamic community.
• The first Harmony Collected Community Choir concert was a resounding success! While it was too hot to be outside on the 19th, everyone went downstairs at the Irvington Presbyterian Church and had a wonderful time singing and enjoying the music.
• IMPD East District will host a gun lock giveaway on Thursday, May 30 from 5-6 p.m. at headquarters, 201 N. Shadeland Ave. This is a drive-through event in the south lot.
• The Woodruff Place Flea Market will be held Saturday, June 1 from 8-5 and Sunday, June 2 from 10-5. The historic neighborhood will be full of great bargains, and lots of surprises. Parking will be very limited on the streets, but will be available in nearby lots.
• Heartland Film is hosting live comedy, family entertainment and short films at Fort Shorts. On June 1, Heartland Film HQ’s Basile Event Center will be open for an afternoon of carnival games and family-friendly short films. You can also stop by on June 6 for an evening of live comedy and showings of comedy shorts from past Indy Shorts International Film Festivals. • In the first week that free annual Pacers Bikeshare passes were available to Marion County residents, 7,953 people started the two-step process to get one. The passes will continue to be available year-round and are available at pacersbikeshare.org. Once someone registers and their Marion County residency is verified, they’ll receive an access code by mail within five to 10 business days. Indianapolis is the first city in the U.S. to offer free bikeshare annual passes to all county residents.
• On Wednesday, June 5 from 3-7 p.m., everyone is invited to come out to see the completed renovation of Polk Stables and the pilot of the Polklore Micro-Museum at 1533 Lewis St. The museum preserves the story of the Polk Dairy factory and its neighbors. You can tour the former horse stables and see the new Cohatch coworking spaces. Admission is free.
• INDOT will close I-465 southbound between I-70 and I-65 on the southeast side beginning Friday, May 31 for bridge deck patching and concrete pavement work. Ramps to 465 will be closed along the route as well from Pendleton Pike south, including Washington St., Brookville Rd., Shadeland, and Southeastern. Closures are expected through June.
• Pogue’s Run Trail on the east side will be the first trail to get glow stones, which will create a lovely glow after dark. The natural substance absorbs the sun’s rays during the day.
