INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Public Library staff are busy preparing for the 2024 summer reading program. This summer, the books and events include pet-themed workshops, reading and activity challenges for prizes, and readers are even a chance for local youth to win a Nintendo Switch, Amazon gift cards, or 529 College Choice CD Savings Accounts.
The Indianapolis Public Library is partnering with IndyHumane to provide a Pet Adoption Wagon at branch locations on select dates and times. Library visitors can meet a wonderful variety of pets eagerly awaiting their forever home. We also have programming that supports shelters and pets, including Paws for a Cause, crafting for shelter animals and animal first aid.
Families with children ages 0-5 can count any time spent reading, writing, singing, playing, and talking with their child toward their summer reading goal. This new literacy tracker will integrate early literacy practices from the American Library Association’s Every Child Ready to Read program.
Participants can help make a lasting impact on young readers by donating books to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis. Drop off donations at any Indianapolis Public Library branch through August 3.
Throughout the summer, they will have American Sign Language interpreters at some programs. The dates and times of programs with American Sign Language interpreters will be available in the youth program guide.
Reading begins on June 1.
