From The Indianapolis Star, Wednesday, April 16, 1924: Initial steps were taken yesterday by a group of businessmen to organize a local National Aeronautic Association chapter which seeks to place Indianapolis on all airway maps of the United States. This action followed Rear Admiral William Fullman’s appearance before several audiences where he stated the aims of the National Aeronautic Association was to enlist citizen interest in aviation and make the airplane a more important factor in the life of the nation by developing it for carrying merchandise, transporting mail and passengers, and creating a force of trained fliers who may be available in a national emergency to defend America. Postmaster Robert Bryson was named temporary chairman and Fred Duesenberg, vice chairman. Once 100 members are secured, a charter will be issued making Indianapolis the thirteenth chapter in the United States.
