INDIANAPOLIS — Lieutenant Mark Rand of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) graduated from the 288th FBI National Academy Session. The 10-week program provides coursework in intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, among other topics.
Lt. Rand is a 25-year veteran of IMPD and currently serves as the Neighborhood Impact Unit (NIU) Lieutenant for East District. During his career with IMPD, Lt. Rand served five years as an East District patrol officer and field training officer. In 2003, Lt. Rand transferred to the Canine Unit where he served as a patrol and narcotics canine handler. Lt. Rand served in the Canine Unit for 12.5 years until his promotion to the rank of sergeant.
Lt. Rand is an active instructor helping train recruit classes in physical tactics and firearms training. Lt. Rand draws upon his four decades of training in the martial arts and time spent competing in multiple fighting styles. Lt. Rand is a 5th-degree black belt in Karate and a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. During his career, Lt. Rand has received the Medal of Valor five times, the Medal of Bravery twice, the IMPD Officer of the Year, and the Special Services Officer twice. Lt. Rand completed his undergraduate degree in July 2023. Lt. Rand has been married to his wife, Tiffany Rand (an IMPD detective), for 12 years.
