Awards at the Bona Thompson and Lost Murals Unveiled

IRVINGTON — Steve & Sue Barnett, Paul Diebold, Tamara Hemmerlein (Indiana Historical Society), and Paula Schmidt  were just some of the members of the Irvington Historical Society on hand accepting Outstanding Historical Organization Award from The Indiana Historical Society on Sunday, Dec. 10 at The Bona Thompson Memorial Center.

In addition, Natalia Nikolayev, art restoration expert who spent countless hours restoring the “Lost” Murals of Dorothy Morlan was on hand for the unveiling of the murals. In 1914, Irvington artists painted murals for the walls of City Hospital (Wishard/Eskenazi). Steve Barnett of the Irvington Historical Society and constant presence at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, was awarded the Fadely History Award by the Indiana Historical Society on Dec. 3. The award is “presented in recognition of outstanding effort to advance the knowledge of history in Indianapolis and Marion County.” Steve is a long time active member of the Irvington community and its organizations. Currently, he is the Marion County Historian as well as a columnist for the Weekly View.
