Applause!: Sept. 1-7

• The Green Thumb Garden Club will celebrate their 78th Anniversary by honoring their president Ruth Hartley on her 100th birthday on Wed., Sept. 6th. They will start with lunch at MCL (10th & Arlington) and then a program at the Irvington Library from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. highlighting Ruth’s lifelong career as a volunteer in many service organizations. Guest speakers include the Club’s State President Jane Kesler, Phyllis Grzeskowiak (Central Director) and Cynthia Wright (recording secretary) who will present certificates.
• The final FACE pop-up clinic of this year will be held on Friday, Sept 8, at Wes Montgomery Park (3400 N. Hawthorn Ln.). The clinic runs 3-6 p.m., or until they run out of vaccines. Vaccines will be administered for $5 per pet — cash and card accepted — and no appointment is necessary. Please bring your dog on a short leash (no retractable leashes) and your cat in a secure container designed for cat transport. Other animals will be in relatively close proximity and all animals must be controlled and secured. Muzzles will be available if needed. Pets must be at least 6 weeks old to receive vaccines. Dogs will receive the DAPP vaccine and cats will receive the FVRCP vaccine. Both animals will receive the Rabies vaccine.
• The Indianapolis Public Library will be closed Sunday, Sept. 3 and Monday, Sept. 4 for Labor Day. Their online portal will be open and you can download books and other materials from indypl.org day or night.
• Be on the lookout in Irvington on Saturday, Sept. 2 after 7:30 a.m. as the Pleasant Run Run gets underway. Beginning at 30 N. Audubon, the run will wind through north Irvington next to Ellenberger Park, Pleasant Run Golf Course, and more. It is possible that streets could be restricted as runners course through the area. • The Indianapolis Public Library Southport Branch will begin a four week Senior Tech Academy geared to helping seniors with the ins and outs of the Internet on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Workshops will be on every Thursday through September. Register online at indypl.org for the upcoming programs. The Southport branch is located at 2630 E. Stop 11 Rd.
• There will be a public hearing regarding possible development in Irvington Plaza on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. at the City-County building, Room 260. The case number is 2023-PLT-064, and it will be a plat hearing. Call the Dept. of Metropolitan Development at 317-327-5155 for further information. The hearing may also be shown on public access cable afterwards.
