Applause!: Aug. 18-24

• On the 4th Saturday of the month (Aug. 20), Good Shepherd United Methodist Church holds a free food drive-thru at the church, 2015 S. Arlington Ave. from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. There are no restrictions, but you will be asked to fill out some forms.
• If you, or anyone around you, has had thoughts of suicide or suffers from depression, please ask for help. There is a national suicide prevention line — 988 — that can get you connected to a local counselor.
• Tickets are now available to the Indiana Repertory Theatre’s 2023-24 season. There is really something for everyone this year, from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and the musical Little Shop of Horrors, to Frida . . . a Self Portrait and The Folks at Home. • The Marion County has a rodent control program that can provide assistance with rat infestations. Give them a call at 317-221-7440 for information about how to control rats in the neighborhood, or visit www.mchd.com. Their hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
• Hurry up to get your Benton House VIP ticket for a special tour celebrating the 50th year of the Home Tour! The VIP event will be held Saturday, Sept. 16 from 6-9 p.m. and includes food, drinks, and a chance to explore two VIP homes with historical, as well as architectural, significance (the D.C. Stephenson home and the Oberholtzer home). The VIP ticket will also be valid for the Sunday tour. The VIP event ticket is $100 and available online at Eventbrite.com. Tickets are going fast, so order yours soon. You can also order a pre-sale coffee table book for $50 that illustrates the homes that have been on the tour over the past 50 years.
•  Garfield Park Conservatory will host a visitor appreciation day on Sunday, Aug. 20 from 1-5 p.m. Admission will be free to the Conservatory. If you’ve never been to the Conservatory’s displays of tropical plants, lovely waterfall and surprising critters, you should drop by. The Conservatory is at 2345 Pagoda Dr. near Shelby St. and Southern Ave.
• The Glendale Branch Library is currently at the Glendale Mall, and is slated to move to new digs at the corner of 62nd and Olney, just a few minutes drive north and east of the current location. The new library building is a stand-alone that will open sometime in the first quarter of 2024. It will have a community room, group study rooms, and will be a LEEDv4 Silver Certified building.
