INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Parks opened their first wave of pools for Memorial Day weekend Saturday, May 27 – Monday, May 29. The pools will then close for additional lifeguard training and reopen for the official start of the summer season on Saturday, June 3. The pools included in the first wave are Broad Ripple Park, Brookside Park, Frederick Douglass Park, Indy Island Aquatic Center, Rhodius Park, Riverside Park, and Thatcher Park. Indy Island Aquatic Center and Thatcher Park Indoor Pools will remain open during normal business hours the week of Memorial Day and will switch to summer hours starting June 3. Gustafson Park Pool will open on June 3. Garfield Park, and Perry Park pools were slated to open, but remain closed until mechanical problems are resolved.
At press time, Indy Parks has yet to announce the opening of other public pools in the system, including Ellenberger. It is hoped that they will be in second wave of openings in June.
Pools will have a small admission fee to enter ranging from $2-$5 depending on age and location of the pool. Attendees can purchase an Indy Parks Fun Card for $40/person for ages three and up which gives them access to one pool per day for the season.
