INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Historical Society recently awarded more than $450,000 to local historical societies and organizations representing 13 counties in Indiana. The Heritage Support Grants serve local, county and regional historical societies, museums and sites by funding projects that meet high-priority needs in collections stewardship, DEI, sustainability and planning.
The program was launched in 2015 to recognize the important role organizations play in upholding the state’s heritage.
Among the recipients is the Irvington Historical Society. They receive $26,881 to make preservation upgrades to the Bona Thompson Center at 5350 University Ave. The grant will fund UV protection on multiple museum windows, improving protection and better preserving collections objects. Currently, the Bona is exhibiting the “Footsteps of the Founders of Sigma Gamma Rho” through November. On Oct. 2, they will open their “Presenting Irvington Artists” exhibit, showcasing today’s fine artists.
Other recipients include the Daviess County Historical Society, Friends of T.C. Steele in Brown County, the Greentown Historical Society, the Jane Ross Reeves Octagon House Foundation in Hancock County, and the Monon Civic Preservation Society in White County.
