• Congratulations to Hotel Tango on the southeast side for winning Distillery of the Year and Best of Show Whiskey with their Peated/Smoked Whisky (under 2 years) at the Indiana State Fair Wine and Spirits competition. Hartland Winery was named Winery of the Year, and Country Heritage Brianna was named Wine of the Year.
• The next Irving Circle Park Concert will be held Saturday, August 6, at 7 p.m. Meet early at the Irving Circle on S. Audubon. The NFC {Neighborhood Food Collective} will be collecting non-perishable food items and donations at the north entrance to the Circle.
• The Fonseca Theatre’s stage has been named the C.H. Douglas & Gray Wealth Management stage. The theater is located at 2508 W. Michigan St. and is a collective led by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color individuals to create an accessible and inclusive space.
•The Genealogical Society of Marion County will present a free hybrid program, “History and Reminiscing about Cerealine Towne in Indianapolis, Indiana,” which will be online and in-person at the GSMC Library, 9370 E. Washington St. Sharon Kennedy, the author of “Memories of Cerealine Towne — Indianapolis, Indiana” will be at the library to discuss the history and tell stories about this neighborhood named for the huge cereal mill company that relocated to Indianapolis from Columbus. • New York Times Bestselling Author Kimberla Lawson Roby will visit the Center for Black Literature and Culture at Central Library on Tuesday, August 9 at 6 p.m. to celebrate the release of her new book, “Sister Friends Forever.” Roby is the recipient of the 2013 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work-Fiction. In August 2020, she was named by USA Today as one of the 100 Black novelists you should read. Roby will introduce her book and answer questions. A book signing and book sales will follow.
• Arts for Lawrence will present “Benjamin Harrison Chased a Goat,” an original work by Hank Greene that pays homage to the 23rd President August 5, 6, 7 and 12, 13, 14. Shows on Fridays and Saturdays are at 7:30 p.m. Sundays at 2 p.m. at the Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. Tickets are $20 for general admission.
