IRVINGTON — The Audio Diner Community Chorus will re-start a long tradition of holiday caroling on December 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Irving Theater. For over 25 years, Audio Diner hosted the event in downtown Indianapolis, and have decided to bring it back in the historic neighborhood. The business community, including Adam Hampton of Hampton Designs, and Scott Drum of Indy Cycle Specialists, have been very supportive of their efforts. Everyone is welcome to come participate — they will hand out music at 6:30, rehearse a little, then sing at 7 p.m. for shoppers in the theater. Then, they’ll bundle up and sing in front of (or inside) various establishments. Organizers encourage everyone to participate and point out that people who say they “can’t sing” can actually hold the melody pretty well, and the more practiced voices can fill in the gaps. It’s a lot of fun and a great way to meet people in the neighborhood if you’re new.
The Irvington Open House itself will run from 5-10 p.m. in the heart of the commercial district of East Washington and Audubon. After a year’s hiatus, the merchants are delighted to offer a unique, walkable event that gets everyone into the spirit. Kids can meet Santa at George Thomas Florist, visit with the Grinch at Black Sheep Gifts, and Hampton Designs will offer Reindeer Makeovers. Snips will have an ornament decorating event, and the Urban Houseplant shop on Johnson will offer a DIY succulent ornament. On Audubon, stop by Deb Kent Gallery of Homes for cookie decorating, and Bazaar-Oh Vintage will have a tree decorating event (next to Phillippe Insurance). Artisan Realtors will offer a tree auction and coloring activity for kids.
Listen to live jazz at Irvington Vinyl & Books, or head next door to LVL Up Gaming for holiday karaoke. Bittersweet will offer cookies and hot chocolate, and Magic Candle will have treats and a sale. Stop by next door at 1979 Co. for their sale on unique leather goods. Josephine’s will be open and you can enter to win a gift and check out their fashions.
