IMPD Retires Cody, Veteran Police Horse

INDIANAPOLIS — On Oct. 19, IMPD retired beloved police horse Cody in a ceremony at Monument Circle. Cody’s new home will be Amitola Care Farm, a nature-based wellness center in Mooresville. Amitola provides a caring and nurturing environment for women and children who have survived abuse through interactions with animals.
Cody served with distinction as a member of Mounted Patrol for 16 years. In that role, he partnered with police officers, assisted in crowd control and protection, and acted as an ambassador to the public. He was also on hand to welcome dignitaries and march in parades.
Cody is a Percheron Thoroughbred cross, standing at 17 hands tall. He was born in 2001, and came to Indianapolis in 2004. He is one of nine horses that make up IMPD’s Mounted Patrol.
