INDIANAPOLIS — The long-awaited opening of the Kan-Kan Cinema and Brasserie will be held Friday, Aug. 20 with films starting at 5 p.m. The public is welcome to screen films, visit the Brasserie for a drink and a bite to eat. The Kan-Kan is located at 1258 Windsor St., across from the Spades Park Library in the up-and-coming Windsor Park neighborhood.
The Kan-Kan is an arthouse cinema, combined with a neighborhood restaurant, and a gathering place for local filmmakers. The building is also home to the Indianapolis Film Project, Inc. Current films for viewing include The Green Knight, Mr. Rugoff, Ema, and others. The Brasserie has a European-inspired menu and offers cocktails. James Beard-nominated chef Abbi Merris of Bluebeard fame, spearheaded the restaurant. You don’t need to see a film to visit the Brasserie.
Kan-Kan will also be partnering with the 30th Annual Heartland International Film Festival, where it will be a location for screenings.
Started by Tom Battista, his son Ed Battista, Sam Sutphin and his son Ben five years ago, the three-screen cinema’s opening was delayed by the pandemic.
