BEECH GROVE — The Samuel Bryan Chapter of Beech Grove recently welcomed seven new members to the DAR. For more than a century, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.
As a member of DAR, members continue this legacy through participation in the Society’s various programs and activities by actively supporting historic preservation, promotion of education, and patriotic endeavors. Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible to join the DAR. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage, and death, as well as of the Revolutionary War service of her Patriot ancestor. DAR volunteers in chapters throughout the country can provide guidance and assistance with the application process.
