INDIANAPOLIS — Chief Randal Taylor recently announced the appointment of Lieutenant Tanya Terry as the new Commander of Southwest District.
Commander Tanya Terry joined the Indianapolis Police Department (IPD) in February of 1999. She started her career on North District and worked Late/Late Tact Shift for several years. Most recently, Commander Terry served as the day shift lieutenant in Homicide. Commander Terry is a graduate of the 2018 Leadership Academy Session and currently serves as a Leadership Academy Mentor and Coach.
Commander Terry was raised on the east side of Indianapolis and graduated from Warren Central High School. After high school, she attended Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis and studied Psychology and Sociology until she began her law enforcement career.
