INDIANAPOLIS — Scecina Memorial High School’s “Our Faith, Our Journey, Our Time” capital campaign has reached $6,839,801 in donations and pledges, according to Scecina President Joe Therber in a recent announcement.
The campaign is the first of its kind for Scecina, which was established by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis in 1953 on the east side of Indianapolis.
The campaign is funding six priorities: a new chapel inside the school, a new weight-training room inside the school, a new main entrance on Nowland Avenue, new activity and athletic fields, and two endowments for facility maintenance and academic excellence, including tuition assistance and teacher salaries.
The weight-training room project is complete and in use by physical education classes and sports teams. Construction of the chapel is targeted for summer 2021. Scecina also already has invested more than $400,000 in the two campaign endowments — the Academic Excellence Fund and the Facilities Endowment Fund.
“I’m more than thrilled with the incredible success of our capital campaign to go beyond our original financial goal. I thank our generous Scecina community for their commitment to sustaining Catholic education for future generations of students in Indianapolis,” said President Therber. “We believe the entire Eastside will benefit from the enhancements made possible by this campaign.”
He said more than 100 volunteers and 750 donors made the campaign’s success possible.
The campaign, which publicly kicked off in September 2019 with the goal of raising $6 million, officially ended on Dec. 31, 2020. The school is in conversations with other donors, so the total amount raised may go higher, President Therber said.
