A Brief Mention of the Super Bowl

So the biggest yearly event in American professional sports has come and gone. You more than likely saw it yourself and formed your own opinion. If you are a Bucs or Tom Brady fan you thought it was amazing. If you are a fan of exciting, balanced and competitive football not so much. Tampa Bay was a wrecking ball on both offense and defense and the Kansas City Chiefs wondered what hit them. In the second half  Patrick Mahones looked dazed and confused. As for Tom Brady, well he further cemented his legendary status as the GOAT as the Super Bowls All Time Most Valuable Player. As for the quality of the halftime show I didn’t watch it so I can’t comment. Anyway let’s put a lid on what is probably the strangest season in NFL history shall we?

Carson Wentz to the Colts?

The hottest rumor in NFL trades right now is where Eagle quarterback Carson Wentz is going to wind up playing. The North Dakota State product was the second player selected in the 2016 NFL draft. In his first two years in the league he was coached by Frank Reich and he showed great promise. In 2017 he played so well that he was considered a possible NFL MVP award winner. However, when Reich left Philly to coach the Colts, Wentz’s play suffered. In 2020 Wentz was benched for ineffective play. Rookie Jalen Hurts took over the starting job and is now considered the #1 quarterback. Wentz has asked for a trade.
Supposedly the Eagles want a deal similar to what the Lions got from the Rams in exchange for Matthew Stafford. It’s rumored that the Bears and the Colts are in a bidding war for Wentz’s services. Whatever the Eagles have been offered they say it is not enough and they are not being treated fairly. Quite frankly Wentz just is not that good and he also has an inflated contract that his new team will have to honor.
Wentz apparently would like to come to Indianapolis and be reunited with Coach Reich but his personal preference does not mean a great deal. If  either the Bears or the Colts really want him they are going to half to cough up a bit more in the value department. The Eagles will have to develop a more realistic evaluation of what Carson Wentz is really worth in the open market.

Manning in HOF

Congratulations to Peyton Manning upon his selection to the National Football League Hall of Fame. #18 was one of five nominees selected for enshinement at Canton Ohio this year. No matter what Peyton will always be #1 in the hearts of Indianapolis Colts fans.
