• On Friday, Jan. 8, the Colts Caravan came to Irvington to bring team spirit to the winding streets. Dozens came out to wave and get Colts swag. Thank you Colts!
• The volunteer who hung the cherub over the Ayres clock passed away after falling from the clock Christmas Eve. Doug Hornberger secretly placed the cherub for 30 years, bringing smiles to everyone who saw it and ushering in the holiday season for many Hoosiers. He will be missed.
• The 11th Annual David S. Moore Memorial Blood Drive will be held Jan. 18-24. Donors can visit all Versiti-Indiana Blood Center locations across the area. Register in advance at https://linktr.ee/mcpo and enter the code “David Moore” in the notes of your appointment. This is a great way to honor the sacrifice of David Moore, and Officers Rod Bradway, Perry Renn, Breann Leath, and Lt. Aaron Allan.
• More than 25 organizations will host Indiana authors during 2021 as part of a statewide speakers bureau and writing workshop program offered through the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Awards. Category winners and shortlisted authors from the 2020 awards will visit communities virtually and in-person for the speaker program events to provide readings and discussions. Five communities will host Indiana authors for interactive workshops. The schedule hasn’t firmed up yet, but the Indianapolis Public Library will host two events, plus the Flanner Community Writing Center, Sidener Academy, Center for Leadership Development, and Central Indiana Land Trust.
• The Indy Winter Farmers Market continues on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-12:30 p..m. at 1125 E. Brookside Ave. They have a big variety of vendors providing fresh food from local farms, plus bath products, woodworkers, composters, and more. All market patrons must wear masks and practice social distancing.
• The Monument Circle light display will honor teachers and school staff from Jan. 18-24 as part of an ongoing effort to recognize the contributions they have made in the ongoing pandemic.
• Beech Grove residents who need a ride to get their COVID-19 vaccination at St. Franciscan Health can get help from the Senior Center. Call 211 and schedule your appointment, then call 317-788-4987 to schedule a pickup time with a driver.
• Greenfield has closed its Animal Control shelter until further notice as they move to a new temporary location. They cannot accept strays, trapped, or owner-surrendered animals. • Free food boxes will be available to those who need them on Wednesday, Jan. 20 from 1-3 p.m. at the Eskenazi Health Center East, 6002 E. 38th St. This is a drive-through event; please stay in your vehicle while volunteers place food boxes in your car. This is a weekly event.
