Applause!: Dec. 4-10

• Thank  you to David Clifton, one of our advertisers, who recently made a very generous donation to Gaia Works in order to support their mission to provide food boxes to needy seniors on a weekly basis, and to provide for a special food bag for Christmas. Earlier this year, David also provided a generous donation to Meals on Wheels to help with senior meals due to increased demand. David has been a wonderful advertiser with us, and we appreciate his continued thoughtfulness and generosity to the community.
• The City of Lawrence had a great turnout for its “A Lawrence Christmas” parade and celebration. The “ice” skating rink is open Fridays from 4-8 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 2-8 p.m. through Dec. 20. The rink is located at Lawrence Civic Plaza, 5710 Lawrence Village Parkway (Otis Ave. and Wheeler Rd.). This is a special material that glides like ice, so you can skate regardless of the outdoor temperatures. Skate rentals are available, and there is a hot chocolate hut to boot! Skate rentals are $10 for adults, and children 12 and under are $5. They take debit/credit cards only.
• Fresh Wednesday Markets at the Irving Theater, 5505 E. Washington St., are still going strong each Wednesday from 4-6:30 p.m. with local fresh vendors selling everything from meat and eggs to teas. Every week has different vendors, so stop by every week to see who is new!
• This year’s Indiana Historical Society Holiday Author Fair is taking place online Saturday, Dec. 5 and Sunday, Dec. 6. Book lovers will still have the chance to connect with some of their favorite authors via Zoom, as several writers will join in to share details of their latest books as well as insight into their careers and work. Authors include John Mutz, Dr. James H. Madison, and illustrator Michele Wood. Author Fair guests can purchase copies of each presenter’s books from IHS and receive 10% off all Holiday Fair titles during the weekend. Visit www.indianahistory.org to register and for more information.
• It was truly a delight to Shop Small on Friday and Saturday, with so many unique shops on the east side! As we picked up presents for loved ones (and a couple of things for ourselves, naturally!) the ladies of the View found some awesome, handcrafted items at very reasonable prices. For the rest of the holiday season, let’s try to spend our hard-earned dollars with these brave, determined shop owners who form the backbone of our local economy!
• The leaning Abe Martin sign that graced the corner of Emerson and E. Pleasant Run Parkway N. Drive at the Kin Hubbard Memorial is missing. Reported lost on Nov. 18, the Irvington Historical Society would like him back. If you know the thereabouts of Abe, please contact them at 317-602-2962.
• The Governor extended statewide restrictions through Dec. 31 due to an increase in COVID-19 cases throughout Indiana. Please continue to practice safe social distancing, wear your face mask in public indoors and outdoors where social distancing isn’t practical, and continue to wash your hands frequently.
