• Out of an abundance of caution, Little Flower Church has cancelled its Halloween party this year.
• Vote Safe Indiana has launched a new Web site, indyvotetimes.org, that tracks how long people are standing in line to vote at early voting sites, and on Nov. 3 at polling sites throughout the city. They go live Friday, Oct. 23.
• The performers of ComedySportz and CSz are producing an improv “The Headless Horseman, Unscripted: An Improvised Ghost Story” on Oct. 31 at 4:30 p.m. and on Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m. for all ages. The 17+ version will be at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31. Admission is $20 per person, and seating is by table at the IndyFringe Pocket Park, 719 E. St. Clair. • On Saturday, Nov. 7 and Sunday, Nov. 8 from 12:30-6 p.m., there will be a Veteran’s Day Film Festival at IMAX at the Indiana State Museum, 650 W. Washington St. Four military-themed films will be shown: Slaughterhouse-Five, Dr. Strangelove (Saturday) Kelly’s Heroes, and Stripes (Sunday). Tickets to the general public are $5, and free for veterans when they present a valid U.S. military ID. Hotel Tango Whiskey is sponsoring the event. Tickets are available ONLY in person at the IMAX Indy box office, and are first-come, first-served. Stop by a few days in advance to get tickets, or show up very early the day of showings.
• Keep Indianapolis Beautiful will be planting a GreenSpace Native garden at Sarah T. Bolton Park in Beech Grove. The garden will replace the plain grass in part of the park, acting as a pollinator haven and a great way to reduce storm water runoff. They have lots of volunteers for the project, so if you are in the neighborhood when they are working in the morning on Oct. 24, be careful!
• Greenfield is hosting a Festival of the Jack-O-Lanterns Oct. 25-Oct. 31. Carved pumpkins can be dropped off for the festival on Sunday, Oct. 25 from noon-5 p.m., and they will be on display through Oct. 31. If you need a little help with your carving, there will be a workshop in the gazebo from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on the 25th (bring your own carving tools or kit). • The City of Lawrence has announced its trick-or-treating hours will be from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. They are encouraging social distancing, face masks, frequent use of hand sanitizers, as well as finding creative alternatives to traditional trick-or-treat events.
• The Indiana Historical Society is presenting “Living the Legacy: Developing the City,” about redlining and other practices that shaped the city, on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 7:00-8:15 p.m. via Zoom. Visit indianahistory.org/events to register online for this free event.
