IRVINGTON — The long-standing tradition of painting merchant windows in Irvington will be modified due to COVID-19 concerns. This year, the event is sponsored by Oakley-Hammond, and kids will have a new way to participate.
The windows will not be painted this year, but instead registered children will be given a small posterboard , available at the Irvington Library through Thursday, Oct. 22. The library on the corner of Audubon and East Washington St. is open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. All paintings must be done and dropped off by Friday, Oct. 23 at the library. The paintings must be landscape orientation (horizontal).
Submitted artwork will be hung in the stores throughout Irvington Monday, Oct. 26 through Nov. 6. There are no assigned spaces; you’ll have to visit the stores to find yours. Shops along East Washington are participating. If you find your painting, you may ask the shop manager or owner the last week of the display and ask them to return it to you after the 7th.
Other Halloween Festival traditions are being modified or cancelled due to the pandemic. The Vampire Run will be held Saturday, Oct. 31 for the annual 5K Fun Run/Walk at 10 a.m. The Slightly Haunted Puppet Show will go on Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Irving Theater. A Night of Spirits will be held Oct. 27 with readings starting at 5:30 p.m. and a seance beginning at 8:30 p.m. (Tickets for the Night of Spirits for the seance are $30 each, plus $10 per reading; tickets are available at the Magic Candle, 203 S. Audubon.)
The long-standing tradition of the Spooky Organ Concert will be a streaming online only event on Oct. 25, and the Night Out in Sleepy Hollow will be held virtually Oct. 29.
