The Colts opened their home season with a big win over the Minnesota Vikings. They accomplished this by running the ball down the Viking defense throat offensively and the defense constantly rushing Kirk Cousins to the tune of three interceptions and a safety. The rookies led the way. Rookie Jonathan Taylor blasted between the tackles for 101 yards on 24 carries and a 5 yard TD run. Rookie receiver Michael Pittman Jr. had 4 receptions for 37 yards. Justin Blackmon filled in for free safety Malik Hooker when the later tore his Achilles tendon. Hooker is done for the season. Rookie kicker Rodrigo Blankenship came through with 4 field goals. Tight end Moe Alie-Cox hauled in 5 catches for 115 yards. It was his best day as a pro.
The Vikes offensive line was ineffective as DeForest Buckner, Denico Autry and Justin Houston and the rest were all over Cousins. Corner back Xavier Rhodes took great delight in beating his former teammates. Second year strong safety Khari Willis was all over the field making plays. He had a 50 yard interception return and once again linebacker Darius Leonard led the team in tackles.
The team lost safety Malik Hooker for the season and 2nd year receiver Paris Campbell for at least 6 weeks. The Horseshoes host the New York Jets at home this coming Sunday. The Jets are regarded by many as the worst team in the league right now so the Colts had better watch it. They play badly against bad teams . . . like what happened against the Jags. Away, they should win.
