• Looking for help to get a job in 2020? The Indianapolis Public Library will hold several Career Center programs for adults needing help with creating a resume, searching for a job or career online, and much more. The next programs will be held Saturday, Jan. 4 at the East 38th St. branch (5420 E. 38th St.) at 11 a.m., the Central Library (40 E. St. Clair) on Sunday, Jan. 5 at 12:30 p.m., Spades Park branch (1801 Nowland Ave.) on Monday, Jan. 6 at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 4 p.m. The library also offers workshops and classes year round on computer skills and other topics that can help. • Progress on the Kan-Kan Cinema and Brasserie on Brookside and Nowland on the near eastside has been speeding right along. The Kan-Kan will have four theatres showing first-run independent films seven days a week, and also house a restaurant headed by Abbi Merriss, one of the founders of award-winning Bluebeard. Word has it that it will be open in late February or early March.
• First Friday art gallery openings are slated for Friday, Jan. 3. Brave the cold to check out the Harrison Center at the corner of Delaware and 16th, the Circle City Industrial Complex at Brookside and 10th, and the commercial district of Irvington for art showings and other creative activities.
• IndyGo, the Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development, and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization will hold a workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 21 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Providence Cristo Rey High School, 75 N. Belleview Place. This will be the second public workshop to discuss efforts to establish transit-oriented development, the Blue Line that will run along Washington St. Read more about this project online at https://www.indytod.com/
• The federal government recently approved a Medicaid waiver that gives Indiana Medicaid the authority to pay for acute inpatient stays for serious mental illnesses. This means that more Medicaid patients will be able to get the help they need to improve outcomes for the seriously mentally ill.
• A crowdfunding campaign has been launched for “Connect the Dots” project, led by the Harrison Center and using the CreatINg Places program. The funding will cover costs associated with revitalizing the Polk building on 16th St. near the Monon Trail.
