• Emerson Heights Roots is a group of residents who have been meeting to discuss issues around the new trees in the medians. The community is invited to attend a meeting for information and discussion on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 7-8:30, at the Emerson Avenue Baptist Church, 308 N Emerson Ave.
• The Indianapolis Public Library and Indy Pride, Inc. will unveil a new LGBTQ+ collection and exhibit at Central Library during the Indy Pride’s Annual Meeting on Thursday, November 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair Street. The public is invited to attend. The collection includes over 6,000 titles on the history, culture and stories of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as a plaque and display in the Library’s Simon Reading Room dedicated to those who curated the collection over the past thirty years.
• Indianapolis Public Schools will host its annual educational and enrollment fair on Sunday, Nov. 10, from 1-5 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, 125 S. Pennsylvania St. The event includes informative sessions, interactive school tables, on-site enrollment opportunities, student performances, live music, free food and give-aways. Parking and admission are free.
• The Robson-Voorhees Neighbors Association will meet Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Minnie Hartmann Center, 3734 E. Vermont St. (enter from Robson).
• The 10th Annual Our Lady of Lourdes Chili Cook-Off is on Saturday, Nov. 9. Cooks report at 7 a.m. with all their ingredients and equipment, and cooking begins at 9 a.m. Doors open to the public at noon, and judging and tasting begin. The People’s Choice awards are given at 3 p.m. for the best chili. Cost is only $5 and includes tastings. Kids under 7 are free, Sun King Beer will be available, and there will be live music by Dysfunktion Brass Band and Scecina Rock Band. Tickets available at the door.
• Beginning November 18, users who access The Indianapolis Public Library’s online collection of e-books and e-audiobooks will see reductions in the number of such materials that can be checked out or placed on hold at one time. Library patrons will see allowable checkouts reduced from 35 to 20 and items placed on hold reduced from 20 to 10 at one time. Also, the loan period for e-books and e-audiobooks will default to a shorter 14-day period, although patrons will still be able to adjust the limit to either the current standard of 21 days or a shorter 7-day period.
• IU Health Foundation was recently awarded a grant to develop an app that will help get patients to IU Health appointments. The program is being piloted in Marion County and offers non-emergency transportation to doctor’s appointments, rehab, and more.
• There will be a marker placed at Willard Park, 1901 E. Washington St., to celebrate the work of William and Elizabeth Willard in establishing the Indiana School for the Deaf in 1850 on the site. The dedication ceremony will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at the park.
