• Weather washed out The 73rd Annual Historic Irvington Halloween Festival street fair on Saturday, Oct. 26. Despite the rain, chill, and bluster, many brave souls made it out in their Halloween best, but the torrential downpours did not let up and the street fair was closed at 2 p.m. due to safety concerns. This is the first time in living memory the street fair has been canceled. However, a big thank you needs to go out for the volunteers and organizers who did a fantastic job this year on all the week’s events, plus the street fair. The Irvington Halloween Squad works year-round to make it possible. The 2020 festival will be amazing!

• Leaf collection season for the city of Indianapolis begins Monday, Nov. 11 and ends Friday, Dec. 6. During that period, you can leave your bagged leaves at the curb, at least 3 feet from your cart, on trash day. The city collects the leaves and composts them at South Side Landfill, creating mulch that gardeners can use on their gardens in spring. Leaves should be in large plastic trash bags.
• Beech Grove leaf collection has begun and will continue through Dec. 20 of this year. Beech Grove residents should rake their leaves as close as possible to the curb without blocking drains or fire hydrants. Don’t include other waste, because leaves are vacuumed up. Call 317-803-9098 for more information.
• On the same subject, the Weekly View’s Home Service section has advertisers who can help you with those fall outside chores like raking and hauling. These are local businesses that we all need to support!
