The Boys of October are back to do battle for the MLB crown. The Washington Nationals and Houston Astros meet tonight (Tues. Oct. 22) for game 1 in Houston. The Astros are a very slight favorite but it’s impossible to discount the Nationals who are competing in their first series ever. Both teams are loaded with big time talent and I’m predicting it will go down to the wire. This week everybody is a baseball fan and the 2019 Series will be one of the all time great contests.
The Colts Lead the AFC South
With their 30-23 victory last Sunday over the Houston Texans, the Horseshoe took hold of the AFC South lead. Jacoby Brissett had a career day, hitting on 26 of 39 passes for 326 and 4 touchdowns. He had a 126.7 passing rating. He is improving every game. Zach Pascal emerged as a viable number 2 receiver catching 6 passes for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns. The running game didn’t come through so offensively it was all on Brissett’s arm.
Defensively the front seven lead by Justin Houston and Jabaal Sheard made life miserable for DeShaun Watson combining for 3 sacks and 3 stuffs. The return to the starting lineup of Darius Leonard gave the defense an added spark. Coming off a three week concussion protocol, Number 53 was all over the field making 10 tackles and a game-sealing interception late in the 4th quarter.
The Yahoo Sports Power Rating now has the Colts at the number 10 spot as does the NBC Sports Power Ranking. With the team’s 4-2 record it’s still a bit early to make any strong predictions The team has a very winnable schedule coming up starting with the Bronco’s at Lucas Oil this coming Sunday (Oct. 27th).
One of the truly remarkable things about the 2019 Colts team is that after Andrew Luck’s surprise retirement, everyone had them left for dead. There were some who predicted the Colts having the #1 pick in the 2020 draft. Let’s hope Frank Reich and Greg Ballard see the humor in all this. It’s looking more and more like the Phillip Dorsett for Jacoby Brissett trade will be one of the biggest deals in Colts history.
