• The ride-sharing company Lyft has partnered with the Brewers of Indiana Guild to provide discounted rides home from participating breweries through Oct. 31. “Rides on Tap” includes several local breweries, including Fountain Square Brewing, New Day Mead and Hard Cider, Bier Brewery, Black Acre Brewing, Indiana City Brewing, and several more. • Interested in learning more about improving conversation? “Talking – How can we do it better with friends, strangers, family?” will be held Oct. 2 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Cumberland First Baptist Church, 116 S. Muessing St. Dr. Sara Drury, Director of the Wabash Democracy and Public Discourse Initiative at Wabash College will be on hand to discuss ideas that everyone can use to have quality conversations that help us live our lives together.
• Adults are invited to join certified Purdue Extension master Gardener Mikel Thorne to learn about plants that thrive in cooler weather on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Spades Park branch, 1801 Nowland Ave.
• Irvington BrewFest will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 from 7-11 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes, 5333 E. Washington St. Tickets are $18-$50 and available online at irvingtonbrewfest.org. Local breweries, cideries and distilleries will be on hand with samples and pints for purchase. This is an adults-only event.
• Congratulations to several local organizations that received Indianapolis Foundation Awards recently, including the Marion County Reentry Coalition, Faith in Indiana, Kheprw Institute, the Kennedy King Memorial Initiative, and the IRT for its INclusion Series. The awards went for programs that furthered goals such as family stabilization, neighborhood empowerment, and criminal justice reform.
• Martin University has announced it will begin transitioning its classes to 8 week accelerated courses. An introductory term will begin Oct. 7 with three courses. The transition will be completed to all courses in the fall of 2020 and will be taught in person and online. Martin University is located at 2186 N. Sherman Dr.
• C-SPAN crews are busy at Indiana History Center to highlight the city’s contributions to literature, as well as history. They visited historic and literary sites and interviewed local notables. The material will air on the cable network’s non-fiction book channel C-SPAN 2 and C-SPAN 3 on Dec. 21 and 22.
• Hear from the three finalists of the Waterside design competition for the former GM plant on the White River on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair. It is an opportunity to see the presentations, plus ask questions about the adaptive re-use of Crane Bay structure, plus visions for the entire property. Tickets are available on Eventbrite and are free.
