• Schools are in session — or will be soon. Police will be out to enforce lower speed limits around schools. They will also strictly enforcing traffic laws regarding buses. For the sake of everyone’s children, slow down and pay attention!
• The Irvington Historical Society’s Ice Cream Social will be held Sunday, Aug. 4 from noon-4 p.m. Looks like it will be beautiful weather to eat ice cream and cake, indulge in some Beach Bum Barbecue, shop the vintage and craft vendors, and listen to classic jazz. Downey Ave. in front of the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 University Ave. will be closed to traffic. Plan your route accordingly.
• Lots of neighborhood meetings coming up. Willard Park meets Monday, Aug. 5 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Woodruff Place Baptist Church, 1739 E. Michigan St. Cottage Home also meets Aug. 5 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Flat12 Bierwerks, 414 Dorman St.
• Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair, invites older adults to “Aging Well: A Series for Older Adults” on Tues., Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. Learn the steps to live healthier lives while preventing cognitive decline. The sessions are geared toward adults aged 60 and older, but all are welcome to attend.
• August First Friday in Irvington will also feature a first anniversary party for Hampton Designs Studio and Shop at 5515 E. Washington St. and Irvington Vinyl and Book just around the corner. This will be a huge party with stand-up comedy, magic, drag performances, music, and much more.
• Very sad to see that Tyner Pond Grocery is closing on the corner of Bonna an Audubon. However, we’ve heard that good things will be coming to occupy that space — stay tuned!
• The recently announced Indianapolis Animal Care vehicle that warned about the dangers of leaving pets in hot cars was recently vandalized at Brookside Park, where it was parked. Windows were broken out and other damage was done. IACS will take it off the streets. If anyone knows about the vandalism, please call Crime Stoppers at 317-692-TIPS.
• Irving Circle concerts will continue on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. at Irving Circle Park, 5703 University Ave. August’s performer will be The Roundups with Jeff Stevenson. The concert is free; concessions are available. All proceeds go to support the Friends of Irving Circle, an organization that maintains and improves the park and the fountain. The circle itself will be closed to traffic before and during the concert.
• The “Cheese and Thank You” food truck was recently launched, presented by New Hope of Indiana, an Indianapolis not-for-profit. Cheese and Thank You is the only food truck in the Midwest in which the food is prepared by, marketed and served by young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
