• All Indianapolis Public Library locations will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day, except the InfoZone which will be open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Our website with thousands of downloadable and streaming books, audiobooks, magazines and movies, remains open to serve you 24/7. As always, you can renew your materials online, over the phone at 317-269-5222, or return them to any library location’s drop box.
• Buck Creek Players was the recipient of a 2019 grant from the Arts Council of Indianapolis and the City of Indianapolis. The grant will help support their production of TRAP with community engagement activities and production costs.
• The Irvington Branch of the Library will host a Tech Explorers program on Saturday, June 29 from 2-4 p.m. Children, teens and families are invited to drop in and tinker with a variety of high tech and low tech activities that encourage STEM learning, critical thinking, and creativity. The library is located on the corner of Audubon and East Washington St.
• The Garfield Park Pops Series continues at the MacAllister Amphitheater on July 3 at 7 p.m. with a performance by the 38th Infantry Division. The concerts are free and family friendly. Garfield Park is located at 2505 Conservatory Dr.
• The Historic Irvington Halloween Festival crew is seeking volunteers to help out the week of the festival at various events. If you’d like to help, visit www.irvingtonhalloween.com and search for volunteer opportunities.
• The old Kmart store on East Washington St. has been revamped and transformed into a U-Haul self-storage and retail showroom.
• Sunday’s quick thunderstorm raced through the east side, knocking down trees, limbs, and much more. This is a good time to review your storm safety plans, which include getting a bag together in case the worst happens and you need to evacuate. Things that are helpful in the bag include copies of important papers for your family, copies of pet vaccination records, a spare cell phone charger, pet food, nonperishable snacks, a couple bottles of water, and some cash. Remember: Stuff can be replaced, but lives cannot.
• With more than 8,200 blue ribbons and cash prizes to be awarded, individuals interested in competing at the 2019 Indiana State Fair, August 2-18, should register by July 1 at 11:59 p.m., as entry fees will increase at midnight. Entries are currently being accepted for all Livestock departments, Indiana Bred and Owned Program, Agriculture & Horticulture, Indiana Arts, Brewers Cup, Wine & Spirits Competition, Band Day, Baton Twirling, Cheerleading, Youth Talent, and Fiddle Competition.
