INDIANAPOLIS — FACE Low-Cost Animal Clinic announced that approximately 14 volunteers, including four veterinarians and FACE staff members, donated their time to spay and neuter 85 community cats on Sunday, April 28. The cats came from across the city, with a majority from the eastside, southwest side and the northwest side.
If left unaltered, the 85 cats could have potentially produced nearly 1,000 cats in the next year. Community cats, often referred to as “feral,” live outdoors in neighborhoods without a particular home or owner.
FACE, through its community cat program that utilizes the humane practice of Trap-Neuter-Return prevents future litters of kittens, and stabilizes cat colonies from overpopulation. It is the only method proven to be humane and effective in controlling free-roaming cat population growth.
