INDIANAPOLIS — Lime and Bird electric scooters are back on the streets of Indianapolis for riders to enjoy. However, city officials are stressing that riders will need to obey the rules of the road in order for them to stay.
The recently passed city ordinance regulating the riding and parking of dockless scooters will be enforced by city officials and the companies fined for violations. The rules require users to park the scooters upright and leave at least four feet of open sidewalk for pedestrians. The scooters must not block entrances and exits to buildings, be parked in handicap spaces at stores, or be left in the public right-of-way.
In addition, police on the Cultural Trail downtown, the Monon, and other trails around the city are handing out safety and rules pamphlets to people violating the riding rules. Riders can ride on the street and in bike lanes, but are prohibited from using sidewalks and public trails such as the Cultural Trail, Monon and Pennsy. Violators will be given a citation.
