INDIANAPOLIS — Twenty-five Indianapolis high school students were named to serve on the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council earlier this year. The students will represent the interests of Indianapolis youth, providing insight and feedback for the Mayor and other City leaders on issues that affect the community.
First announced by Mayor Hogsett in April, the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council will help develop the next generation of Indianapolis leaders and elevate young people’s role in making Indianapolis a safer, stronger, and more welcoming city. The Council is made possible by the Lilly Endowment, The Indianapolis Foundation (a CICF affiliate), Leadership Indianapolis, and the Marion County Commission on Youth (MCCOY).
The Mayor’s Leadership Council is made up of a diverse group of teens in their junior or senior year of high school and represents all nine Indianapolis townships. The members of the first Mayor’s Leadership Council include representation from several east, southeast, and northeast side schools, including: Isaiah Garrett (Lawrence North), Curshuna Harvey (Warren Central), Tara Kalia (Franklin Central), Nina Marie (Lawrence North), Clara Oesterling (Southport), Dawttiniang Phuting (Perry Meridian), Montserrat Rodriguez-Bahena (Arsenal Tech), Liz Sheldon (Lawrence North), Richaun Stewart and Alli Shuffitt (Warren Central), and Ethan Williams (Franklin).
