• There will be a neighborhood meeting for Little Flower on July 17 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Little Flower Church, 4720 E. 13th St. Neighborhood meetings are a great way to get to know your neighbors and find out how you can help.
• Tie Dye Grill, an eastside restaurant known for its great tenderloins and 1960s psychedelic vibe, will close permanently July 27. The owners stated that there were a variety of issues that led to the decision, and they hope their loyal fans will stop by one last time before they say farewell. The restaurant recently relocated to the Moose Lodge on 16th St. just east of Shadeland.
• The City of Lawrence broke ground on the construction of the new police station for Lawrence Police at 5150 N. Post Rd. The 37,000 headquarters will be the first dedicated police station in Lawrence, and is estimated to cost around $12.9 million. Construction will likely be completed in mid-2019.
• There will be a lunch and learn at St. John Lutheran Church, 6630 Southeastern Ave., on July 17 at 11:30 a.m. The guest speaker will be news anchor Scott Swan, who will share his faith and experiences in broadcast news. • The last two Entertainment on the Plaza concerts are coming up. On July 13, the 45RPM Band will perform, then on July 20, the West Central Quartet will close the 2018 series. All concerts start at 7 p.m. and take place at the Greenfield City Plaza and courthouse lawn. Bring your own blankets or chairs for seating. There are no rain dates or sites for the events.
• Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Indiana (RMHCCIN) asks everyone to bring their pop tab and coin collections downtown on Fri., July 20 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. for the 14th Annual Pop Tab and Coin Drop on Monument Circle. RMHCCIN collects and recycles pop tabs to help raise money for the more than 5,000 families of hospitalized children that come through their doors every year. The Pop Tab Program generates approximately $20,000 annually. For those who haven’t had time to collect pop tabs, but still want to make a contribution, they are also holding a coin drive.
• Families are invited to learn how to make a garden a habitat capable of supporting bees and other pollinators on July 14 at 3 p.m. at the Glendale Branch library, 6101 N. Keystone. The program, presented by Myrene Brown, will include a visual tour of native plants that look great in the landscape while providing for the pollinators important for the food chain.
• The Quilters Guild of Indianapolis (QGIS) south side satellite meeting will be held Thurs., July 26, at noon at Friedens United Church of Christ, 8300 S. Meridian St. The guest speaker will be Carol Stahlhut of McCordsville, who will speak on the Houston Spring Market’s latest quilting trends, tools and fabrics available in stores in September.
