• Old Bethel UMC will hold its vintage quilts show and bake sale June 23 from 10:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at the church, 7004 E. 21st St. (corner of 21st and Franklin). There are some beautiful quilts on display from church members, and there will be a sale of quilting accessories and a bake sale. Many of the quilts on show have deep family connections, and you’ll get to hear the stories behind them.
• The Irvington Historical Society will have a workshop with the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission on June 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 University Ave. Meg Purnsley, Administrator for the Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission, will be present, and will be available to answer questions about what you can and can’t do in historic districts. • The Eastside Games begin June 16 at the opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. at the John H. Boner Center, 2236 E. 10th St. Lots of opportunities for friendly neighborhood competition in dodgeball, roof hockey, trivia, cooking, and much more. Visit www.edingames.com for last minute team sign-ups. Really, this week long games fest is a great way to get to know your neighbors and have fun.
• Indianapolis Animal Care Services is hosting free adoptions through June 22. The shelter is overcrowded with loving and adoptable dogs and cats who need forever homes. If you have space in your home and heart, please consider pet adoptions! Adoption Center hours are Sun.-Tues. from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., closed Wed., Thurs. 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Fri. & Sat. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The center is at 2600 S. Harding St.
• Talbot Street Art Fair will be held June 16 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and June 17 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The fair, one of the largest in the Midwest, is located between 16th and 20th and Delaware and Pennsylvania in the Historic Herron Morton neighborhood. Over 270 arts and crafts people will be there.
• It was a shame that the first Irvington Farmers Market got caught in the rain June 10. However, if you need your fresh local food fix, check out the Fresh Wednesday mini-farmers market on Johnson Ave. from 4-7 p.m. every Wednesday around the corner from the Irving Theatre, 5505 E. Washington St. You’ll find a nice assortment of produce, eggs, and more. The next Irvington Farmers Market will be held July 8 from noon-3 p.m.
• Need to get rid of old tires? There will be a Tire Recycle Day on June 16 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Mosquito Control building, 4001 E. 21st St. and at SECO on the south side, 1925 Fletcher Place. Call 317-221-7440 for more information. The service is free.
