Applause!: April 6-12

• The Hancock County Children’s Choir will host their 2018 Spring Concert on April 7 and 2:30 and 7 p.m. at the Mount Vernon High School Auditorium, 8112 N. 200 W. in Fortville. • Our very own Al Hunter will present a special program commemorating the 151st anniversary of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln on April 14 from 5-7 p.m. at the Irving Theater, 5505 E. Washington St. Al will give a talk on the murder and aftermath, and present rare photos and relics. Admission is free, but guests bring a can or box of food item or personal care item for the Gaia Works Irvington Food Bank. They will also accept donations of gently used men’s clothing, and new socks.
• Celebrate 10 years of Indy Magic shows April 6 and 7 with special guests such as Cody Clark on April 6, 7 p.m., a kid’s show Conductor Cody Magic Show April 7 at 4 p.m. (with picnic, weather permitting), and the April 7 spectacular at 7 p.m. starring nationally known magicians Francis Menotti and David Ranalli. • The ever-popular Wright Brothers will perform to raise money for Franklin Schools arts programs on April 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Franklin High School, 6215 S. Franklin Rd. Tickets are $20-$25 and reservations are required. Visit showtix4u.com to reserve seats early to avoid disappointment.
• Lots of neighborhood meetings coming up. On April 10 from 6:00-7:30 p.m., the Rivoli Park neighbors will meet at Cliffod Corners (3125 E. 10th St.). Springdale neighbors meet April 10 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Alford House, 2428 E. 10th. Spades Park will meet April 16 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Spades Park Library, 1801 Nowland Ave.
• A great idea for civic engagement is blooming. Civic Saturday will provide a forum for civic education, including songs, poetry, and American texts, plus provide a place to share thoughts and ideas about improving public life. The first meeting will be April 28 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Glendale Branch Library, 6101 N. Keystone. For more information, contact Spirit & Place at 317-274-2462.
• Several library branches will offer free legal advice at the Ask-a-Lawyer event on April 10 from 1-5 p.m. Brightwood (2435 N. Sherman), Central (40 E. St. Clair), College Ave. (4180 N. College), East 38th St. (5420 E. 38th St.), East Washington (2822 E. Washington St.), Lawrence (7898 N. Hague Rd.), and Southport (2630 E. Stop 11 Rd.) will participate.
