INDIANAPOLIS – Residents and businesses in the Monon16 neighborhood will soon see an influx of artists working with the community members thanks to a new crowdfunding campaign. The campaign, sponsored by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and offered through the crowdfunding platform developed by Patronicity, is being run by The Harrison Center.
If the campaign reaches its crowdfunding goal of $50,000 by December 15, 2017, The Lift Indy: Monon 16 project will receive a matching grant from IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program.
The funding raised during this campaign will allow the Harrison Center to invite up to 20 artists to engage the Monon16 community, celebrate neighborhood stories, elevate long-term businesses and residents in an effort to connect diverse neighbors through public art, commissioned songs and new videos.
Funding will also be used to host a series of monthly events such as art exhibits, porch parties, and concerts that will help new arrivals to the neighborhood engage with long-time residents. The final piece of funding will be used in a place-branding campaign which will include neighborhood marketing both online and offline.
Since the CreatINg Places program began last fall, 24 projects have raised in excess of $860,000 in public funds and an additional $600,000 in matching IHCDA funds.
