Applause!: July 7-13

• The eastside Crime Reduction/Code Enforcement committee meeting has been rescheduled for July 10 at 5:30 p.m. at Englewood Christian Church. The public is invited to attend. The church is located at 57 N. Rural Ave.
• The IDADA First Friday events will be held throughout the city July 7 from 6-9 p.m. Please note the Rapp Gallery at Indiana Landmarks will be closed for July. Check out the east side galleries, especially in the Circle City Industrial Complex, 1125 E. Brookside Ave. with lots of studio spaces, plus Ruckus Makerspace. The Harrison Center for the Arts, 1105 N. Delaware, will have a “Wild Kingdom” group show, plus open galleries and studio spaces throughout. The Herron School of Art and Design at 735 W. New York will be open with a large scale video installation by Ragnar Kjartansson and lots more in other galleries. Support local arts and artists!
• The Irvington Farmers Market is July 9 from noon-3 p.m. at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair. Be there or be square!
• Want to get your kids interested in outdoorsy things? The Irvington branch of the Indianapolis Public Library will host a Garden Buddy Art Class on July 14 at 4 p.m. Children ages 5 and older are invited to use found objects to create their own yard or garden buddy. Space is limited to 25 per session. Call 317-275-4450 to register.
• Blue Alchemy will be playing Sat., July 8 from 7-9 p.m. at Irving Circle Park, 5703 University Ave.
• Speaking of music in the public parks, mark your calendar for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s Symphony in the Park at Ellenberger July 18 at 7:30 p.m. The lineup features Bartok, Strauss, Brahms, and Dvorak for an evening of lively classical music. Bring your own seating for this free event. Ellenberger Park is located at 5301 E. St. Clair.
• Rita Kohn’s play And How Does Your Garden Grow? explores issues of family and mentors, and youth in crisis. See it at IndyFringe July 8 at 4:30 & 7:30 p.m., Sun. July 9 at 2:30, Fri. • Our own Al Hunter recently teamed up with Dick Wolfsie to pay tribute to the late, great Harlow Hickenlooper portrayer Hal Fryar, who recently passed away. As was appropriate, Wolfsie got a pie in the puss. The beloved performer will certainly be missed by a great many Hoosier Baby Boomers.
• The Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites continue to honor America’s service men and women by participating in the Blue Star Museum program. The program provides free admission to any active service military, including National Guard and Reserve, and up to five family members. The discount is valid between Memorial Day and Labor Day 2017 and is accepted at the Indiana State Museum and its 11 Historic Sites across the state.
