INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Foundation, a Central Indiana Community Foundation affiliate, has granted $1,429,000 to 23 Marion County organizations that build new affordable housing, provide healthcare services to vulnerable women, improve community spaces and otherwise make Indianapolis a better place to live, work and play.
Among the grantees are:
• Assistance League of Indianapolis — a $20,000 grant will help Operation School Bell provide new clothing and shoes to Marion County students from low-income families.
• Tab Community Services Inc. — a $125,000 grant will help upgrade Tab’s community wellness facility that serves 5,000 youth and Fall Creek community members.
• Shepherd Community Inc. — a $40,000 grant will support a project manager for the 46201 project, which seeks to conduct 350 home repairs and 10 homes built for low-income families and individuals living in the 46201 zip code — an area where 35 percent of housing is abandoned and 40 percent of the population lives below the poverty level.
• IUPUI School of Medicine—a $30,000 grant supports Making Healthy Choices Outreach Program, aimed at increasing education, access to healthcare services and connections to community resources for low-income and vulnerable women.
• American Cabaret Theatre — a $40,000 grant for 2017 building transition.
• Gleaners Food Bank — $75,000 for their produce program.
• Harrison Center for the Arts — $25,000 for the pre-enactment on East 16th St.
• IndyPL — $550,000 for the Marion County Internet Library, plus $35,000 for the On the Road to Reading project.
• La Plaza — $30,000 for operating support.
• Earth Charter Indiana — $15,000 to support Climate Camp.
