INDIANAPOLIS — The National Association of Police Organizations (NAPO) has selected Detective Sergeant Robert Pearsey as one of the honorees to receive the prestigious TOP COPS Award. The TOP COPS Award pays tribute to the men and women of law enforcement for their outstanding service to America’s communities. TOP COPS are nominated by fellow officers. This award is given to ten officers around the country, and Sergeant Pearsey was honored on May 12, in Washington D.C., during Police Week along with Chief Bryan Roach.
On Friday, July 29, 2016, Detective Sergeant Robert Pearsey was shot in the line of duty while conducting a domestic disturbance investigation. Sergeant Pearsey was faced with an unusual situation and he was forced to preserve his life and the lives of three other individuals. Sergeant Pearsey suffered gunshot injuries to his elbow and right side. One bullet was removed from his right side; another bullet shattered his elbow. The elbow had to be rebuilt and has required substantial medical attention and physical therapy. He continues to undergo medical treatment and plans to return to full duty soon.
