Irvington Summer Music Series Kicks Off with Celtic Music Concert

IRVINGTON — On May 5 from 7-10 p.m. at the Bona Thompson Memorial Center, 5350 University Ave., the new Irvington Summer Music Series will kick off with a Celtic Music Concert.

The concert will highlight the contributions of Irish and Scottish music to Indiana music. Featured performers include Hogeye Navvy singing sea chanteys, railroading and canal songs; Jim and Kate Smith playing traditional Irish tunes on Irish flute, Uillean pipes and fiddle; Irish step dancers Sarah and Michael Conway, and Scottish ballad singer Patrick Grant.

The second show will be coming up May 21 at 4 p.m.  with Tibetan Singing Bowls  artist Ron Esposito and his group returning to the Bona Center for an eclectic performance of World and New Age influenced music.

The ensemble features Ron Esposito playing four Tibetan and ten crystal singing bowls, throat singing, chant and recitation; Michael G. Ronstadt, cello; Jim Feist, tabla and Johnny Ruzsa, flutes. The group is known for spirited improvisation with an open-hearted emotional approach to music making.
