• The Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee (GIPC) is now accepting nominations for the 16th Annual Mayor’s Celebration of Diversity Awards. The awards will be presented to businesses and organizations throughout Marion County that embrace, celebrate, and apply holistic inclusion and participation of a diverse people, making the workplace a better environment in which to work and the community a better place to live, work, and raise a family. This year’s awards luncheon will support ProjectIndy, Mayor Joe Hogsett’s summer youth employment initiative. Recognition will be given for outstanding performance in each of the following categories: Leadership, Workforce Diversity, and the Sam H. Jones “Best of the Best.” The nomination form is available online at www.indygipc.org and must be submitted by Fri., Feb. 3, 2017. • The Beech Grove Branch of the Library is offering an open house about the Affordable Care Act Healthcare Marketplace from local healthcare representatives on Jan. 21 from 3-5 p.m. and Jan. 28 from 3-5 p.m. The branch is located at 1102 Main St. Call 317-275-4560 for more information about this program.
• The Irvington Green Initiative is back in action in a different form. There will be a meeting Jan. 28 fromo 5-7 p.m. at Bittersweet, 5543 E, Washington St. and will be on the topic of recycling and creating a more resilient community. Admission is free. • Planning a family reunion or birthday party for summer? A great outdoor option might be a shelter at Hornet Park in Beech Grove. Shelters are available for rent from May 1 to Oct. 15, and cost $65. • Seems a little early to be thinking about summer activities for the kids, but Indy Parks will begin their Day Camp registration Jan. 23 at noon. • The eastside’s Circle City Industrial Complex is growing in leaps and bounds. In the past several months, it has become home to a new brewpub, Centerpoint Brewing; a distillery, 8th Day Distillery; the home of the Winter Farmers Market on Saturday mornings; and a new gallery, the Full Circle Nine Gallery (FS9), which will hold a grand opening during First Friday events, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. The FC9 grand opening will premiere with the work of 8 artists: Jeanne Dill, Kimberly Ewing, Dan Haynes, Joy Hernandez, Rachel Illingworth, Andrew Koeling, Terrence Loftus, and Robin Toulouse. Check out the gallery in Suite B23 in the South Studios. The complex is located at 1125 Brookside Ave. (corner of 10th and Brookside).
