World War I 100 Years Ago: Jan. 13-19

From The Indianapolis Star, Thursday, January 18: Indiana adjutant general Harry B. Smith announced that the Arcadia Theater building, 459 Virginia Av, has been leased from the Amusements Building Co as an armory for the Indianapolis units of the Indiana National Guard. First Indiana Infantry Companies A, C and D; the signal corps; and field hospital No. 1 will occupy the building after March 1 when remodeling is completed. With the installation of lockers, equipment racks and clubroom facilities, the 134 by 152 foot building will prove to be the best armory location the Indianapolis companies have ever had. Battery A, the Indianapolis field artillery unit, has no place to go when it is mustered out of Federal service tomorrow, so its equipment will be stored temporarily in buildings at the state Fair Grounds until an armory has been obtained.
