The Indiana Repertory Theatre’s original work, Finding Home: Indiana at 200 is a bold, diverse look at the Hoosier State through history. Many Indiana-connected writers contributed to this sprawling story, and the original music by Tim Grimm and family, tells the story of Hoosiers both famous and infamous: Princess Mishawaka, Madame C.J. Walker, Gene Stratton-Porter, William Henry Harrison, James Dean, John Dillinger, Diana of the Dunes, Cole Porter, and Lew Wallace, to name a few. It also covers key events in the state, such as its importance on the Underground Railroad, the downfall of the KKK, the significance of the labor union, and the formation of a unique state identity.
With a superb ensemble cast moving in and around the Upperstage, singing and transitioning to vignettes, the show is a must-see for anyone who loves the state. While it gives a tip of the hat to the state’s rural sensibilities, the Indiana of this production is richly blessed with culture and diversity, from the jazzy Indiana Avenue scene, to basketball courts and cornfields. Because there is so much material, Finding Home actually has two parts , a Blue and a Gold. Each evening is a different experience, so you’ll need to see this great show twice.
Tickets are available for both the Gold and Blue productions through Nov. 13. Visit irtlive.com or call 317-635-5252 for more information about times and dates.
